Job description

Fusion Engineering is seeking a mechanical engineer to join our multi-disciplinary scientific and engineering consulting team. We serve industrial, insurance, and litigation clients across the country and throughout the world. Our team assists clients in “making the complex simple” by providing technical expertise across a range of subject matters including design analysis, post-accident investigation and reconstruction, failure analysis, and intellectual property matters. Candidates must possess a strong work ethic with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively.

Job responsibilities:

  1. Conduct field investigations and perform forensic engineering and failure analysis involving all types of machinery, mechanical equipment and devices.
  2. Evaluate products for compliance with standards and regulations.
  3. Perform engineering analysis of equipment, materials, and systems including dynamic, kinematic, and stress and strain calculations.
  4. Perform computer simulations to analyze the performance of equipment and systems.
  5. Evaluate heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and explosion debris patterns.
  6. Travel to accident scenes or client sites to perform inspections, gather data, and secure evidence.
  7. Evaluate existing materials to draw conclusions and/or identify an action plan.
  8. Manage projects from inception to completion, providing guidance to clients.
  9. Participate on multi-disciplinary teams to analyze complex issues.
  10. Prepare concise written reports of analysis and conclusions.
  11. Provide testimony of findings at deposition or trial.
  12. Author technical papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  13. Present at technical conferences.
  14. Develop client relationships and promote business growth.
  15. Assist in marketing technical capabilities to clients and the scientific community.

Required qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or similar field.
  2. At least 10 years of relevant experience, preferably including experience in consulting and/or testifying.
  3. Experience in at least one of the following areas is preferred: MEP design, appliances, fire suppression systems, fuel distribution, residential and commercial HVAC, accident reconstruction or motor vehicles.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  5. The ability to work at a fast pace in a team environment and independently.
  6. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  7. Proficiency in statistics is preferred.

Travel requirements: Up to 35%, as required by project work.
