Principal Mechanical Engineer, Data Center

NSB Omega is searching for a Principal Mechanical Engineer, Data Center for our Client in Texas.

Assignment Description

Responsibilities

The Principal Mechanical Engineer, Data Center will focus on the following as well as other job-related duties and/or projects as assigned.

  • Provides leadership, technical expertise and guidance on the mechanical space to deliver a portfolio of data center projects aimed to disrupt traditional industry models, with a strong focus on ensuring the implemented solutions are robust, cost-efficient and able to service present and future computing demands
  • Understand interdependencies between different systems present in data center facilities, like cooling systems, fuel systems, electrical systems, fire systems and the controls that tie them all together.
  • Deliver or review/approve conceptual and detailed mechanical facility designs at key stages, ensuring soundness, technical correctness, efficiency, performance and compliance with industry standards
  • Maintains interpersonal relationships with other internal technical staff, external design consulting firms, construction management, commercial team and site management conducive to the successful development and implementation of these designs
  • Stay updated on advancements in HPC data center design to ensure technologies present in our data centers stay current for longer and new ones are fed back into data center designs to incorporate if future developments
  • Coach and mentor other technical staff, contributes to identifying and developing training programs, provides cross-functional training and in general acts as a Subject Matter Experts inside and outside the company.

Desired Skills, Qualifications and Competencies include:

  • Minimum of Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution with at least 8 years of experience in Data Centers and/or mission critical MEP design, construction and/or operations. PE is desirable but not essential.
  • High level of knowledge and demonstrated expertise on:
  • Large-scale water and air-cooled chilled water cooling plant design, construction and control, including their flow diagrams, P&IDs and sequence of operations
  • Fluid dynamics, pumping and compression principles and design
  • Thermal, energy and HVAC principles and load calculation software tools
  • MEP systems integration and controls
  • Relevant ASHRAE Handbooks/Standards, ASPE design handbooks, IPC codes, IEEC codes and any other relevant to data centers and mission critical facilities, their safety and compliance
  • Knowledge of data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tools and solutions
  • Good leadership skills and interpersonal relations in order to lead by influencing through the incumbent's high-level competency
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to cater to different audiences with diverse backgrounds, from junior staff to senior leadership
  • Self-driven individual, with attention to detail and ability to execute high-quality work with limited direction
  • Ability to deal comfortably with uncertainty and limited resources or information
