Job summary

Westinghouse is seeking a Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer to oversee design, development, implementation, and analysis of complex mechanical products and systems at Cranberry Township, PA. This hybrid role requires several on-site days at Westinghouse’s Cranberry Woods HQ with some telecommuting.

The role leads technical teams, coordinates design efforts, and mentors engineers while delivering high-quality documentation, licensing submittals, and presentations.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering.
• Broad knowledge of engineering procedures.
• Knowledge and experience in systems and/or component design, development, and analysis, including fluid systems and/or solid‑state machines and interfaces with instrumentation and control.
• Significant experience in a technical leadership role with design, modeling, analysis, and ability to manage technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate design efforts for one or more mechanical systems, components, or technical projects.
• Verify, review, and co-author documents, assuring high quality, use of Human Performance tools, and training of professionals.
• Author or co-author complex reports and licensing submittals.
• Work independently and collaboratively on complex projects requiring extensive technical experience and capabilities.
• Perform system design planning, including design review preparation and interface coordination with other systems, testing, and licensing.
• Lead technical teams, delegating work and mentoring team members while providing oversight.
• Collaborate with stakeholders on progress, technical issues, cost, and schedule.
• Identify and define technical issues, risks, and challenges, leading resolution to impact multiple stakeholders.

About The Role

As a Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer you will oversee the design, development, implementation, and analysis of highly complex technical products, processes, components, equipment, and systems.

Location: Cranberry Township, PA, US.

This is a hybrid role requiring several days a week on site at Westinghouse’s Cranberry Woods Headquarters office, with the remaining days telecommuting. No relocation will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate design efforts for one or more mechanical systems, components, or technical projects.
• Verify, review, and co-author documents, assuring high quality, use of Human Performance tools, and training of professionals.
• Author or co-author complex reports and licensing submittals.
• Work independently and collaboratively on complex projects requiring extensive technical experience and capabilities.
• Perform system design planning, including design review preparation and interface coordination with other systems, testing, and licensing.
• Work with the Manager to resource systems and equipment work, identify resource, technical, and scheduling gaps, and support schedule development.
• Lead technical teams, delegating work and mentoring team members while providing oversight.
• Collaborate with stakeholders on progress, technical issues, cost, and schedule.
• Identify and define technical issues, risks, and challenges, leading resolution to impact multiple stakeholders.
• Collaborate with partners such as national laboratories, sub‑contractors, suppliers, and customers.
• Mentor engineers and lead a team in the execution of complex tasks.
• Perform presentations and training to internal and external audiences.
• Support audits, inspections, and regulatory meetings.
• Support the development of proposals for various designs and projects, as needed.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering.
• 7+ years of applicable experience.
• Broad knowledge of engineering procedures.
• Knowledge and experience in systems and/or component design, development, and analysis, including fluid systems and/or solid‑state machines and interfaces with instrumentation and control.
• Significant experience in a technical leadership role with design, modeling, analysis, and ability to manage technical teams in challenging situations.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally on occasion.

Beneficial

Base salary range: $103,200 to $129,000 per year, dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills.
