Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking an Engineer II - Mechanical to perform structural analysis and thermohydraulic assessments for nuclear reactor components at the Cranberry Township, PA site. The role offers a hybrid schedule with opportunities to engage in design qualification for the current fleet and AP1000 reactors.

The candidate will use ANSYS and internal codes, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and support refueling outages, including nights and long shifts, as time-sensitive

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
  • 3+ years of experience in Component structural analysis or Thermo Hydraulics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design and analyses for repair, modification and qualification of components within the primary pressure boundary of Westinghouse designed nuclear power plants.
  • Use analysis tools such as finite element simulations (e.g., ANSYS) and internal codes to qualify component design.
  • Collaborate with subsystem leads to integrate and resolve design issues.
  • Develop project schedules with project managers and subsystem/component leads.
  • Identify technical risks and drive resolutions.
  • Ensure compliance with industry, regulatory, NRC/DOE/ASME codes and standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and collaborate with national laboratories, sub-contractors, suppliers, fabricators, and customers.
  • Support plant refueling outages, including 12-hour shifts and overnight work as needed.

About the Role

As an Engineer II - Mechanical you will report to the Manager, RVI Load Development & Analysis * Reactor Component Engineering and be located at our Cranberry Township, PA location. This role has a hybrid work schedule. No relocation assistance is provided for this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform design and analyses for the repair, modification and qualification of components within the primary pressure boundary of Westinghouse designed nuclear power plants including current operating fleet, AP1000 reactors.
  • Use of analysis tools, such as finite element simulations (ex. Ansys), closed form engineering calculations, and Westinghouse internal analysis codes to qualify component design.
  • Work with other component, system, and manufacturing lead on the integration of the subsystems and work through emergent design issues.
  • Work with project managers and subsystem/component leads to develop project schedules.
  • Identify and define technical risks and challenges, direct efforts to successful resolution.
  • Bring engineering thoughtfulness to resolution of problems that are sometimes loosely, or only partially, defined, requiring experience within given discipline.
  • Incorporate the use of industry, regulatory, or NRC/DOE/ASME codes, standards, and criteria relevant to nuclear reactors in design activities.
  • Provide technical guidance, direction, and collaborate with other personnel including partners such as national laboratories, sub-contractors, suppliers, fabricators, and customers.
  • Support plant refueling outages (both on-site and remotely) including stretches of 12-hour shift work and overnight work because of time sensitivity
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required. Mechanical engineering, Engineering Mechanics or Aerospace Engineering preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in Component structural analysis or Thermo Hydraulics.

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $69,200 to $86,500 per year.
