Engtal is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the design-build HVAC and MEP work while building a Columbus engineering design hub. You will mentor engineers, shape design standards and collaborate across departments to deliver complex projects from concept to delivery.

The role begins fully remote with a gradual shift to a flexible hybrid schedule as the Columbus office is established, anticipated toward the end of 2027. Strong leadership and client-facing skills are essential.

Formación

• Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering; PE license required.
• Proven leadership of engineering teams.
• Extensive HVAC, hydronics, and central plant design experience; strong client interactions.

Principal Mechanical Engineer – Design-Build / MEP

Location: Columbus, OH | Remote Initially, Transitioning to Flexible Hybrid

A prestigious national Engineering & Construction / Design-Build firm is looking to appoint a Principal Mechanical Engineer to spearhead the development of a new engineering design hub in Columbus, Ohio.

With an exceptional reputation for technical excellence and delivering complex projects, the company operates across data centers, mission critical facilities, healthcare, federal and commercial construction. As demand continues to grow, they're investing in a dedicated Columbus design team to support their expanding national portfolio.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineering Leader to take ownership of a growing team, influence engineering standards and play a central role in establishing a new design operation. The position will initially be fully remote, transitioning to a highly flexible hybrid schedule once the Columbus office is established, anticipated toward the end of 2027.

The Role

As Principal Mechanical Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership across complex mechanical and MEP projects while helping build, mentor and develop a high-performing engineering team.

• Lead the mechanical engineering design of complex design-build projects, including HVAC, hydronic systems, plumbing, central utility plants and broader mechanical infrastructure.
• Spearhead the development of the Columbus engineering design hub, supporting team growth, recruitment, mentorship and the establishment of engineering processes and standards.
• Oversee conceptual and detailed mechanical design, including heating/cooling load calculations, equipment selection, system sizing, design layouts and technical specifications.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering, construction and preconstruction teams to develop integrated, cost-effective MEP solutions from early design through project delivery.
• Manage and mentor engineers and designers, overseeing technical development, resource allocation, project performance and engineering quality.
• Represent the mechanical engineering function in client meetings, design reviews and project discussions, supporting long-term relationships and the continued growth of the business.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, with a Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
• Proven ability to lead, mentor and develop engineering teams.
• Strong technical expertise in HVAC design, mechanical building systems, hydronics, central plants and broader MEP infrastructure, including knowledge of applicable codes and design software.
• Proven experience leading complex mechanical design projects from concept through construction, with excellent communication and client-facing skills.
