Job summary

3M HEALTHCARE in the United States is seeking a Principal Mechanical/Aerospace/Materials Engineer to lead design efforts in Engines and MEMS Sensors, delivering highly reliable products at low cost. The role requires mentoring engineers, providing technical leadership, and presenting to customers.

You will interface with multiple functions, drive lean product development, and ensure compliance with EH&S and ITC policies, while collaborating with Global Engineering Center in India.

Qualifications

• STEM degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 5+ years.
• Proven ability to provide technical leadership on complex projects.
• Experience ensuring compliance demonstration to customer or regulatory requirements.
• Experience preparing and delivering design or project review presentations.

Responsibilities

• Technical lead for bids and proposals for new engine sensors.
• Review product specifications and determine design requirements and scope.
• Technical leadership of complex, multi-disciplinary teams.
• Develop and review estimates of effort and duration for tasks.
• Support project cost and schedule development and baselining.
• Requirements management and convergence planning.
• Prepare, present, and review stage-gate design reviews with customers.
• Generate and review design concepts and perform trade studies for optimum configurations.
• Perform and review tolerance analyses on components and assemblies.
• Review drawings and utilize CAD solid modeling to prepare models and drawings.
• Write and review test requests, support design verification testing, coordinating with test department.
• Specify materials including high-temperature, corrosion and oxidation resistant alloys.
• Specify material joining methods and specifications for welding and brazing.
• Provide MRB support and disposition nonconforming product.
• Interface with all other functional groups and departments.
• Use department computer technology independently and productively.
• Work with the Global Engineering Center in India on design tasks.
• Drive Lean Product Development tools to support cost-effective technical solutions.
