Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for you to join our team as a Principal Manufacturing Engineer based out of Sunnyvale, CA. You will support the manufacturing and testing of marine propulsion and power generations systems working on various manufacturing processes for high-value gearing and steam turbine assemblies, machined components, and welded fabrications. This position will focus on optimizing capability of manufacturing tools and machinery.

What You'll get to Do:

  • Oversee operation of capital machinery, specializing in machine tool systems (milling, boring, turning, hobbing, grinding).
  • Optimize performance of equipment by implementing new capability (development of solutions to increase throughput and reduce cycle times using new tooling components/systems; programming techniques, control systems upgrades).
  • Troubleshoot machine failures to minimize downtime, while collaborating with machine maintenance and equipment OEMs.
  • Support new capital procurement and the designs and arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
  • Adapt machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology Engineering or Math) with 5+ years of relevant work experience; Master's Degree in a STEM discipline with 3+ years of relevant work experience; PhD with 0 years of experience.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment as a process owner (process, equipment, documentation, special training).
  • Hands-on experience machining and troubleshooting of machines or being in a machine shop environment.
  • Experience with machine tool equipment and control systems (large CNC mills, lathes, hobbers and grinders).
  • Comfortable and able to work well as part of an integrated team including skilled machinists, engineers, and management.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Ability to support multiple shifts as required.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance which requires US citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in machine tool design and maintenance.
  • Capable of programming CNC lathes, mills and/or grinders.

Salary Range: $97,500 - $146,300

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
