Job summary

Jabil in Prince George, Virginia seeks a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer for LV switchgear to own the mechanical architecture and guide design releases across programs from concept to production.

You will drive thermal/structural decisions, ensure manufacturability, mentor engineers, and assure compliance with UL/IEC and other standards while collaborating with global teams and customers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.

Responsibilities

• Own and govern the mechanical architecture strategy for LV switchgear across programs.
• Translate requirements into scalable specifications and roadmaps.
• Lead system-level mechanical architecture decisions for enclosure, busbar, insulation, and safety features.
• Define design criteria for structural integrity, GD&T, sheet metal design, and assembly access.
• Provide technical direction for thermal design, CFD, and temperature-rise analyses.
• Guide design transfer, manufacturing readiness, and engineering change across sites.
• Ensure compliance with UL 891/1558, NEC, IEC 61439, NEMA, IEEE 37.20.1 and related standards.
• Mentor engineers and develop reusable standards, guides, and templates.
• Collaborate with global teams, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, regulatory, suppliers, and customers.
