Job summary

BigBear.ai is actively seeking a Principal Software Engineer to design and maintain core middleware supporting authentication, authorization, and critical integrations. You will own middleware reliability, improve system security, and boost developer productivity across the enterprise.

You’ll build Java/Spring Boot microservices, model NoSQL stores, and lead incident response while mentoring engineers. Telework is possible after onboarding, with onsite or hybrid during screening.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field plus 12+ years of software engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience with Java/Spring Boot applications: RESTful APIs, microservices, DI, config management, and production troubleshooting.
• Experience with NoSQL databases: data modeling, querying, indexing, performance optimization, and Spring Boot integration.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain Java/Spring Boot microservices and REST APIs for authentication, authorization, and middleware concerns.
• Model and optimize NoSQL data stores; integrate them with Spring Boot for low-latency workloads.
• Troubleshoot production issues across app, DB, and integration layers; lead incident response and durable fixes.
• Contribute to system design decisions including hardware/software trade-offs and reuse vs. new development.
