Job summary

HRUProfessional is seeking a Principal Software Infrastructure Engineer to advance the software development infrastructure for embedded vehicle software engineering. Remote position with some proximity to Oshkosh or Madison, WI preferred.

You will modernize on‑premises apps to Docker on Red Hat Linux, automate VM deployments, and build middleware to connect development tools. Expect hands‑on Python work, CI/CD, and tool administration across multiple projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 5 years of related software engineering, software infrastructure, or development environment experience.
• Strong hands-on Python programming experience, including automation scripts or tools.
• Practical experience with Docker, including deploying and migrating containerized apps.
• Strong Linux proficiency with command-line operations and scripting.
• Experience with CI/CD practices and software development lifecycle understanding.
• Ability to lead projects and mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and enhance software development infrastructure for embedded vehicle software engineering.
• Plan migrations of on‑premises Windows applications to Docker containers on Red Hat Linux.
• Deploy, configure, and administer Docker containers and Swarm where applicable.
• Automate provisioning and management of virtual machines and supporting infra.
• Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines and integrate software assurance tools.
• Administer engineering tools, version control, compilers, and build systems.
• Maintain reliability, performance, security, and availability of development environments.
• Support installation and migration of Atlassian Data Center products (Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence).
• Design, develop, test, and document Python-based automation solutions and web/desktop apps.
• Develop middleware and integrations for on‑premises and development systems.
• Ensure software designs meet performance and maintainability requirements.
• Follow version control, change management, and CM processes.
• Lead technical initiatives independently and mentor team members.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners on infrastructure needs.
