Job summary

Intepros is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to drive IBM i (AS/400) connectivity efforts remotely in the United States. You will lead a senior team in building native IBM i integration, APIs, and security, coordinating design reviews and releases.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in software engineering, strong Java experience, and hands-on IBM i expertise including CL and JTOpen/jt400. This is a direct-hire, full-time role enabling scalable, secure connectivity.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering.
• Hands-on IBM i integration with CL, native APIs, JTOpen/jt400, and DB2 for i.
• Strong concurrency and long-running monitor design.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, and modern tooling.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain native software for IBM i connectivity.
• Build native job submission/monitoring, spool file and data queue handling, and CL/RPG invocation.
• Integrate IBM i with the platform via IBM i APIs and JTOpen/jt400.
• Implement security and per-user authorization using IBM i profiles.
• Troubleshoot complex system-level issues across IBM i, Unix and Java.
• Improve reliability, performance, security and scalability of the IBM i solution.
• Participate in architecture, code reviews, testing and release planning.
• Use AI tools to accelerate development while verifying against IBM i references.
• Document connector behavior and platform prerequisites for field and support teams.
