Job summary

Vytalize Health is seeking a Principal Engineer to design, build, and operate the CDS Hooks and API-driven data delivery platform that embeds clinical insights directly into provider workflows.

You will own the technical foundation for CDS Hooks, REST APIs, and associated data pipelines, collaborating across Data Engineering, Product, Clinical Operations, and EMR partners. This role emphasizes reliability, scalability, and compliant health data access.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing, building, and operating API platforms or backend infrastructure at scale.
• Senior or staff-level contributor with end-to-end ownership of complex systems.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience with CDS Hooks, SMART on FHIR, or similar clinical decision support APIs.
• Strong REST API design, versioning, and authentication/authorization patterns.
• Experience with healthcare data integrations and interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7).
• Proven ability to partner with product, analytics, clinical operations, and business teams.
• Comfortable in a fast-moving, regulated healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of the CDS Hooks platform and related APIs.
• Own API contracts, versioning, and deprecation policies for external consumers.
• Integrate with major EMR systems (Epic, NextGen, Athena, ECW) for CDS Hook workflows.
• Build and maintain public REST and event-driven APIs for clinical data and metrics.
• Establish reliability metrics, SLAs, and performance targets for CDS Hooks and APIs.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews and architectural guidance.
