Job summary

AES Corporation is seeking a Principal Generator Modeling Engineer for its ACE team to oversee generator models from interconnection studies through construction and operation. You will lead engineers, coordinate with internal and external resources, and drive model quality and compliance with ISO/NERC standards.

Ideal candidates will have 8-10+ years in generator modeling using PSSE/PSLF, PSCAD, and Aspen, plus strong leadership and project management skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering.
• 8-10+ years of generator modeling experience.
• Experience with PSSE/PSLF; EMT with PSCAD.
• Ability to lead engineers and mentor.
• Interconnection package experience.
• Knowledge of MOD standards and PRC-029.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and submit generator models for interconnection.
• Oversee consultant work for PSSE/PSLF/PSCAD/Aspen.
• Coordinate and prioritize modeling work among internal and external resources.
• Lead team members to deliver results and improve workflows.
• Guide engineers on model builds, verifications, data gathering, and analysis.
• Ensure the team's models meet ride-through, reactive power requirements and that parameters are reasonable.
• Supervise engineer's data gathering from manufacturers and contractors.
• Supervise generator models with substation schematics and related settings.
• Track and implement generator model upgrades per ISO and NERC requirements.
• Coordinate responses to modeling requests from Transmission Planner/Planning Coordinator.
• Oversee MOD-026-2 verifications and model validation tests.
• Guide projects for compliance with MOD standards and PRC-029 ride-through requirements.
• Train engineers on model development and verifications.
• Find efficiencies in modeling processes from interconnection to as-built models.
