Job summary

PENNYMAC is seeking a Principal Frontend Engineer to lead architectural decisions for an AI-powered platform. You will design a scalable frontend that supports real-time collaboration, multi-user editing, and AI-driven interfaces for developers and product teams.

You will work closely with backend engineers to define contracts, implement Generative UI patterns, and drive DX improvements while delivering high-performance, data-heavy SPAs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, HCI, or related disciplines, or equivalent experience.
• Elite expertise in React & TypeScript with 8+ years building data-heavy SPAs.
• Experience with Next.js App Router and Server Components.
• Hands-on Real-time collaboration with WebSockets / SSE and CRDT libraries.
• Proven AI integration experience with LLMs and Generative UI techniques.
• Strong data visualization skills using modern libraries.
• Startup mentality with ownership and rapid iteration.

Responsibilities

• Architect the Agentic Workspace using React/TypeScript and Next.js.
• Build the Collaborative Canvas with real-time multi-user collaboration.
• Develop Generative UI and dynamic UI elements driven by AI context.
• Create intuitive visualizations to explain AI reasoning and data lineage.
• Collaborate with backend to define API contracts for streaming data.
• Lead DX improvements and frontend DevOps practices.
• Establish frontend standards and evangelize AI-native patterns.
