Job summary

athenahealth is seeking a Principal Frontend Engineer in Boston to shape architecture and long-term direction across Clinicals frontend applications. This hybrid role blends hands-on coding with broad cross-team influence, establishing standards, a unified React-based platform, and scalable data access via GraphQL.

You will lead multi-year modernization, mentor engineers, participate in design reviews, and partner with product and design to align technical decisions with business goals.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
10–15 years in software engineering with frontend focus.
Deep React/TypeScript expertise and scalable UI design.

Responsibilities

Architect large-scale frontend systems using React/TypeScript and GraphQL.
Define standards, patterns, and a shared component library.
Lead modernization roadmap and manage technical risk across the platform.
Mentor engineers and guide cross-team architectural decisions.
Evaluate AI-assisted tooling to boost productivity while ensuring quality.
