Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a Financial Analyst Principal to prepare financial forecasts and variance analyses focused on consolidated reporting. You will analyze regulatory and business strategy and conduct ad hoc analyses of strategic opportunities to drive executive decision-making.

You’ll build forecasts with operating company input, perform monthly/ quarterly variance analysis, identify rate-change implications, and develop value-driving insights for senior management and the board.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, business or engineering.
• 6+ years of work experience in the listed disciplines.
• Excellent presentation skills and ability to communicate with all levels.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, financial modeling, and data systems.

Responsibilities

• Initiate and formulate financial forecasts using corporate models.
• Perform monthly/quarterly variance reporting and budget vs. actual analyses.
• Identify needed customer rate changes and advise timing and amounts.
• Track forecasts across entities and present earnings drivers to senior management and the board.
• Develop strategic evaluations of corporate opportunities and recommendations.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost savings and revenue enhancement.
• Assist management in training new analysts.
