Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a Principal Engineer to unite customer needs, market opportunities, and technical innovation in the utility sector. You will bridge customers, Marketing, Product Management, Sales, Engineering Services, and R&D to translate insights into differentiated products and solutions.

Location: Boise, ID or Pullman, WA. Competitive pay and benefits with travel as needed to meet business objectives and customer needs.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Electrical Engineering or applicable discipline.
• 15+ years working knowledge and experience of electric power systems or equivalent.
• Demonstrated leadership and advocacy within SEL in Distribution Protection and related practices.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills to support product strategy and customer engagement.
• Excellent technical training, speaking, writing, and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead discovery, development, evaluation, and advancement of innovative ideas and growth initiatives for the utility market.
• Drive market analysis, benchmarking, customer engagement, and trend analysis to identify unmet needs.
• Establish and manage a continuous pipeline of strategic opportunities.
• Translate market opportunities into product requirements with cross-functional teams.
• Provide deep expertise to ensure products address validated market needs and deliver value.
• Influence product strategy, roadmaps, and technical narratives for growth.
