Job summary

CarMax is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to own the strategy, architecture, and evolution of the UKG Pro WFM platform and its HR ecosystem integrations. This senior role drives architectural decisions, shapes engineering practice, and leads cross-team collaboration across Timekeeping, Accruals, Attendance, and Scheduling.

You will mentor engineers, uphold SDLC discipline, and partner with HR and operations to translate requirements into scalable solutions, with a hybrid work arrangement

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS, Engineering, Statistics, or related field, or equivalent experience, with 7+ years of relevant work experience.
• 7+ years of hands-on UKG Pro WFM and/or Kronos experience.
• Experience designing or leading migrations toward API-first or abstraction-layer integration patterns.
• Strong understanding of enterprise integration architecture—middleware, abstraction layers, and cloud infra (Azure preferred).
• Experience integrating UKG with Workday and payroll platforms.
• Familiarity with data platforms such as Google BigQuery.

Responsibilities

• Lead enterprise-level solution design across UKG Pro WFM with focus on scalability, resiliency, and long-term sustainability.
• Design and implement solutions across core UKG modules: Timekeeping, Accruals, Attendance, Forecasting, and Advanced Scheduling.
• Drive integration strategy evolution from Dell Boomi toward API-first patterns to improve maintainability.
• Define integration requirements for middleware with cloud fluency (Azure preferred).
• Ensure solutions consider the full HR ecosystem, not just a single platform.
