Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a candidate to work in Vulnerability & Live Fire Test IPT within the Survivability IPT. The role focuses on understanding aircraft system vulnerabilities through modeling, simulation, analysis, and live-fire testing, with full-time on-site work and no remote options.

The candidate will develop target models, perform vulnerability analyses, and brief government officials. A STEM degree with relevant experience and a secret clearance are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 5 years of related engineering experience, or Master’s degree with 3 years of related engineering experience.
  • Thorough understanding of threats and threat effects.
  • Demonstrated competence with vulnerability analysis tool sets (COVART or AJEM).
  • Construction or modification of target models.
  • Use of statistical tools (e.g., JMP).
  • Thorough understanding of vehicle systems and aircraft structures.
  • Experience authoring or updating Vulnerability Assessment Reports (VARs).
  • Ability to transfer and maintain a final adjudicated U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance and program access within a reasonable period.

  • Determine contributors to overall Probability of Kill values.
  • Conduct sensitivity analyses.
  • Brief customer and government officials on analysis assignments, findings, and status.
  • Plan, execute, and report live fire tests.
  • Develop test concepts and derive test shot parameters.
  • Use statistical tools to conduct Designs of Experiment (DOE).
  • Conduct trade studies to assess vulnerability-reduction feature additions/selection based on live-fire data.

Position Overview

The selected candidate will report to the Vulnerability & Live Fire Test IPT within the greater Survivability IPT. Responsibilities include understanding the vulnerability of aircraft systems through modeling, simulation, analysis, and live fire test activities. The role is full‑time and requires on‑site work; no remote or hybrid options are available.

Essential Duties
  • Develop target models of aircraft from NX models.
  • Conduct 26‑view and burst‑point analyses using the AJEM vulnerability analysis tool.
  • Determine contributors to overall Probability of Kill values.
  • Conduct sensitivity analyses.
  • Brief customer and government officials on specific analysis assignments, findings, and status.
  • Plan, execute, and report live fire tests.
  • Develop test concepts and derive test shot parameters.
  • Use statistical analysis tools/processes to conduct Designs of Experiment (DOE).
  • Conduct trade studies to assess vulnerability‑reduction feature additions/selection based on live‑fire testing data.
  • Brief customer and government officials on specific testing assignments, findings, and status.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience, OR Master’s Degree in a STEM and 3 years of related engineering experience.
  • Thorough understanding of threats and threat effects.
  • Demonstrated competence with the vulnerability analysis tool set (COVART or AJEM).
  • Construction or modification of target models.
  • Use of statistical tools, e.g., JMP.
  • Thorough understanding of vehicle systems and aircraft structures.
  • Experience authoring or updating Vulnerability Assessment Reports (VARs).
  • Extensive experience with customer counterpart collaboration.
  • Understanding of live fire testing.
  • Incorporation of live fire test data and results into vulnerability analysis.
  • Ability to transfer and maintain a final adjudicated U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance (must be in‑scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.
Preferred Qualifications
  • B.S./M.S. in Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering.
  • Vulnerability analysis program planning.
  • Use of complex analysis tools, e.g., Amesim, LS‑Dyna.
  • Exposure to structural analysis.
  • Hands‑on experience with live fire testing.
Salary & Benefits

Primary level salary range: $108,200.00 – $162,400.00.

Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, long‑term incentives, health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company‑paid holidays, and paid time off for vacation and personal business.
