Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking a Principal Engineer-Substation for a 1-year remote contract via its WECTEC Staffing Services. You will lead all assigned substation projects from conception through commissioning, with some travel within North America.

The role requires a bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil/Structural Engineering, 7+ years in HV substation design, and project engineering or management experience; PMP or PE is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil/Structural Engineering is preferred.
• 7+ years experience in Substation design and engineering of High Voltage substation projects.
• Project Engineering and/or Project Management experience with PMP and/or P.E. in related discipline is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Training, due diligence, and technical oversight of external engineers of record (EOR) for all assigned substation projects.
• Coordinate with other project partners to develop and secure a substation site and support engineering updates, data and permits.
• Communicate with transmission owners/operators/ISOs to ensure deliverables meet off-taker requirements.
• Work with project engineering resources across disciplines to determine priorities and plans.
• Ensure projects are implemented safely, cost-effectively, and in line with standards and policies.
• Support project commissioning activities to meet corporate objectives.
• Support Legal in regulatory filings, depositions and/or hearings.

About the role:

Location: Remote position

We are looking for a Principal Engineer-Substation on behalf of our client. This is a 1-year contract assignment. (W-2) You will be responsible for all assigned substation projects from conception (Early Stage) through construction and commissioning (Execution).

In the conceptual phase, you will work with the Early-Stage Project Manager to support the engineering requirements and scope with the Development Group. You will report to the onsite manager.

There will be some travel required within North America. Manage all project long lead major material orders to minimize risk of delays or exceeding the project budget.

You will support Transmission Services during review of interconnection documentation including system impact studies, facility studies, reactive and harmonic studies and Interconnection agreements.

Key Responsibilities:

• You are responsible for training, due diligence, and technical oversight of external engineers of record (EOR) for all assigned substation projects. This oversight ensures compliance with required generation interconnection agreements, scope of work documents, project specifications, site specific design requirements, and all applicable industry codes and standards, including IEEE, NESC, and ASCE.


• Coordinate with other project partners to develop and secure a substation site, support any engineering updates, data and permits necessary to design and build the substation.


• Will work with and communicate often to the respective transmission owners/operators/ISOs to ensure project deliverables will meet specific off-taker requirements, are and accurate.


• Work collaboratively with project engineering resources in various disciplines to determine project priorities, work plans and lines of demarcation.


• Ensure projects are efficiently, cost effectively and safely implemented in accordance with department process, procedures, industry standards and policies.


• Support assigned project commissioning activities to meet corporate objectives.


• Support Legal in any regulatory filings, depositions and/or hearings.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil/Structural Engineering is preferred.


• Must have 7+ years experience in Substation design and engineering of High Voltage substation projects.


• Project Engineering and/or Project Management experience with. PMP and/or P.E. in related discipline is helpful.
