Job summary

Elastic is seeking a Principal Engineer for its Information Technology team in Mountain View, CA. This senior role demands leading architecture decisions, owning platform engineering standards, and delivering high-impact internal systems built on Elasticsearch, Kibana, and Elastic AI.

You will partner with IT leadership, Security, Platform Engineering, and Finance to replace costly SaaS with Elastic-native solutions and to drive cost governance and observability across the stack.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of software engineering experience, including leadership at senior levels.
• Proven track record building and shipping commercial software or platform systems.
• Deep, hands-on expertise with Elasticsearch and production operations.
• Strong written communication and architectural decision making.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic build-vs-buy decisions for internal SaaS portfolios.
• Design and build Elastic-native internal platforms across four focus areas.
• Set engineering standards, patterns, and practices for IT platform work.
• Collaborate with IT, Security, Platform Engineering, and Finance to align requirements.
• Dogfood Elastic's own products and use them as reference architectures.
