Elastic is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the Elasticsearch Security team. You will own architecture and design for authentication, authorization, and tenant isolation, ensuring high-performance security at scale across a distributed data store.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate across functions, and drive vulnerability management with the InfoSec team, leveraging AI to streamline security workflows and improve outcomes.

Qualifications

• Experience designing scalable RBAC/ABAC systems.
• Proven track record in security for distributed systems.
• Experience with cryptography and TLS.

Responsibilities

• Own core security initiatives from architecture to production, delivering new features.
• Lead technical design and execution for security components in the Elasticsearch core engine.
• Develop foundational security models for complex features.
• Optimize security performance in distributed systems.
• Apply cryptographic methods to real customer scenarios.
• Ensure data isolation within shared infrastructure.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed security in features from the start.
• Drive vulnerability management with the InfoSec team to identify and remediate risks.
• Leverage AI tools to accelerate development and triage security issues.
• Mentor engineers to promote security-first development.
