Job summary

MISO is seeking a Principal Engineer – Planning R&D to evaluate technologies, resources, and system changes transforming the electric grid. You’ll blend technical depth with energy-industry insight to assess impacts on processes and systems and develop solutions for the grid’s future.

You’ll collaborate across disciplines—production cost modeling, power flow, dynamic stability, resource adequacy, and markets—to answer complex questions about the evolving power system.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in electrical engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in electric energy.
• Experience with power system modeling and analysis, especially power flow and dynamic stability studies.

Responsibilities

• Develop novel analytical methods that complement traditional phasor domain tools for R&D.
• Create conceptual designs, test benches, and prototype workflows for stability assessment.
• Establish planning timeframe processes for stability in long-range studies and interconnections.
• Define monitoring and validation processes linking planning analysis with operations.
• Drive process changes, clarify roles between MISO and Transmission Owners for stability.
• Translate R&D insights into updated planning standards and guidance.
