Job summary

MISO seeks a Principal Engineer – Planning R&D to evaluate technologies, resources, and system changes shaping the electric grid. You’ll blend power systems expertise with industry insight to assess trends and develop solutions for the grid of the future.

You’ll collaborate across disciplines, applying modeling, stability analysis, and planning workflows to answer complex questions about the evolving power system, and you’ll help prepare reliability and market impacts for next-generation

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in an engineering field related to power systems.
• At least 10 years of relevant experience in electric energy or power systems.
• Experience with power system modeling and analysis, especially power flow and dynamic stability.

Responsibilities

• Develop novel analytical methods to accelerate R&D workflows and complement phasor-domain tools.
• Create conceptual designs, test benches, and prototype workflows to evaluate stability challenges.
• Establish planning-timeframe processes for integrating stability into long-range studies.
• Define monitoring and validation processes linking planning to operations.
• Drive process changes clarifying roles between MISO and Transmission Owners for stability responsibilities.
• Translate R&D insights into updated planning standards and guidance documents.
