The Principal Engineer – HVAC Design provides advanced engineering expertise and design support for Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) projects and facilities. This position performs complex HVAC engineering activities in support of nuclear and process chemical facilities and applies advanced engineering principles, industry standards, and SRNS processes and procedures to develop safe, compliant, cost-effective, and technically sound solutions.The Principal Engineer works on complex engineering problems, provides technical leadership and guidance to less senior professionals, and supports the development and implementation of engineering programs and design solutions. The position requires extensive experience in HVAC design, field engineering, and the application of nuclear and industrial engineering codes and standards.Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering with 10 or more years of applicable engineering experience; orMaster's degree in an applicable science or engineering discipline with 8 or more years of applicable experience; orPh.D. in an applicable science or engineering discipline with 5 or more years of applicable experience.Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering may be accepted in accordance with position requirements.Minimum of 10 years of HVAC design experience in the nuclear or process chemical industry.Demonstrated experience developing HVAC engineering designs and calculations.Experience with HVAC equipment sizing, duct sizing, pressure drop calculations, heating and cooling loads, cooling tower sizing, and air balancing.Strong knowledge of applicable HVAC, nuclear, and industrial engineering codes and standards, including:NFPA 90ANFPA 90BNFPA 91NFPA 801ASHRAE FundamentalsASME AG-1ASME 509ASME 510SMACNAARI 410ARI 430ARI 450Ability to develop and review engineering calculations, drawings, system descriptions, equipment lists, and other design documentation.Ability to perform field walk-downs and evaluate engineering work in the field.Ability to work effectively on active construction sites, including navigating uneven surfaces, walking distances greater than one-half mile, climbing ladders, and wearing required protective clothing.Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.Ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to less senior engineering personnel.Ability to work independently and exercise sound engineering judgment when resolving complex technical problems.Ability to develop schedules, monitor progress, track budgets, and review engineering work for compliance with technical requirements.Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE \"Q\" security clearance.Subcontractor must have an active eFOCI registration and approved Facility Level Clearance with DOE/NNSA.
