Job summary

The City of Tigard is seeking aSenior Civil Engineer to lead development review, engineering design, and project administration. You will supervise engineering staff and collaborate with multiple departments to ensure compliance with standards and timely permit processing.

The role requires 5+ years in professional engineering, a P.E. license or ability to obtain in Oregon, and strong customer service skills. Hybrid work option and city benefits are available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum five years' progressively responsible professional engineering design, plan review, and project administration experience.
• At least one year of lead or supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the private development team including Engineering Technicians and a Project Coordinator.
• Oversee plan review for development engineering and compliance with standards.
• Develop and update engineering design standards with the Assistant City Engineer.
• Collaborate with Community Development on permitting and long-range planning projects.
• Provide excellent customer service to applicants and community members.

Examples of Duties

• Supervise the private development team that includes Engineering Technicians and a Project Coordinator.

• Work closely with the Assistant City Engineer to develop and update engineering design standards.
• Collaborate with the Community Development team on permitting requirements and long range planning projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities, to perform the essential functions of the position, may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

• Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or related engineering field; and
• A minimum of five (5) years' increasingly responsible experience in professional engineering design, plan review, and project administration including at least one (1) year of lead or supervisory experience.

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving history.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of appointment, a Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer license to practice in the State of Oregon

Schedule:

40 hours per week. Work schedule includes a combination of office and off-site meetings (some evenings) There is an opportunity for remote work up to 1 day per week.
