Principal Energy Storage Power Market and Quantitative Analyst

Locations: HYBRID (Houston, TX area)

This is an opportunity to join an industry-leading renewable energy venture with strong private equity backing, focused on the development, execution, and operation of dynamic utility-scale energy storage projects. The company has accumulated over a 9GW+ nationwide portfolio of projects, including a utility-scale fleet of grid-connected standalone battery storage assets.

The position will facilitate quantitative assessments and analysis crucial to the portfolio's success. The incumbent will also help pioneer the build-out and utilization of a proprietary battery storage/energy storage management platform for utility-scale renewable projects. The work culture is fast-paced and built for growth.

Responsibilities:

1. Battery dispatch model: Lead improvements on the company's custom battery dispatch model, run back-cast studies to support market research, siting, M&A, and finance efforts.
2. Market analysis: Maintain and analyze the ERCOT BESS dashboard, identify bidding trends, track rule changes, and suggest risk-aware trading strategies.
3. Forecasting: Assist in refining price forecasting processes and develop better DA/RT bidding strategies.
4. Data analysis: Explore internal and external data sources (ISO/RTOs, YES Energy, ICE, etc.) to build models that reveal trends and strategic insights.
5. Cross-team collaboration: Work closely with Fundamentals, Trading, Data Science, and Commercial teams to perform analyses and shape long-term revenue forecasts for BESS.

Qualifications:

• Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, or a related field (Master’s preferred), with 7+ years of experience in energy market modeling, optimization tools (like Dayzer or Aurora), and ERCOT/BESS analytics.
• Technical skills: Proficiency in Python, data pipeline development, SQL, Power BI, and Microsoft Office suite.
• Market knowledge: Strong understanding of energy markets, including LMPs and congestion, with the ability to explain these concepts clearly.
• Communication skills: Ability to translate complex analyses into insights for technical and non-technical audiences, including reports and presentations.
• Teamwork & multitasking: Experience managing multiple projects in fast-paced, cross-functional environments with geographically dispersed teams.
• Analytical mindset: Data-driven problem-solving skills, with a focus on turning numbers into strategic decisions.
