Job description

This is a remote position.

US Market Strategy Transmission Manager & Lead Power Market Modeling Analyst

Locations: FULLY REMOTE (Anywhere in the USA)

This is an opportunity to join an industry-leading renewable energy venture with strong private equity backing that is focused on the development and execution of dynamic utility-scale energy storage projects. They are at the forefront of the industry, have accumulated over 7GW of projects in a relatively short period of time, and are currently in an accelerated expansion phase which includes the growth of their Transmission, Interconnection, and Market Operations Team.

The incumbents will also help pioneer the build-out and utilization of a proprietary battery storage / energy storage management platform for utility-scale renewable projects. Lead Transmission Market Analyst Role

The Lead Transmission Market Analyst role is a highly technical LEAD position that will drive transmission zonal and nodal production cost modeling efforts to support the commercial strategy of utility-scale renewable energy projects across all ISO / RTO markets in the United States. Leadership responsibilities also include mentoring junior staff. Experience with AURORA is a HUGE PLUS!

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. The Lead Power Market Analyst / Principal Transmission Analyst develops production cost models and analysis of transmission renewable industry patterns in AURORA, PLEXOS, PROMOD, GRIDVIEW, or UPLAN to predict short/long term electricity prices and drive greenfield renewables project development siting initiatives.
  2. The Lead Power Market Analyst / Principal Transmission Analyst performs optimization modeling to forecast congestion, assess congestion drivers, and assist in locational marginal pricing (LMP) assessments.
  3. The Lead Power Market Analyst / Principal Transmission Analyst advises on zonal & nodal analysis to enhance the company's market platform.
  4. The Lead Power Market Analyst / Principal Transmission Analyst selects trading nodes based on market congestion patterns & bid curve analysis.
  5. The Lead Power Market Analyst / Principal Transmission Analyst facilitates transmission topology comparisons and updates.
  6. The Lead Power Market Analyst / Principal Transmission Analyst develops data visualization dashboards in PowerBI and queries in SQL to streamline processes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. 5-10+ Years transmission power market experience focused on production cost modeling, economic planning, or transmission market operations experience in Technical Leadership or Principal role.
  2. AURORA power market modeling experience is ideal but similar programs like PROMOD, PLEXOS, GridView, and UPLAN will also be considered.
  3. Must have experience with various types of analysis - capacity prices, regional energy pricing, congestion and curtailment analysis, transmission constraints, interconnection assessments, LMPs, and/or regional supply and demand curves.
  4. Data Visualization experience in tools like PowerBI are HUGE PLUS.
  5. Hands-on experience or solid understanding of transmission topology.
  6. Must have an understanding of national energy markets and renewable energy portfolios (PJM, ERCOT, SPP, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, and CAISO).
  7. Experience and strong automation skills in Excel, VBA, SQL, Python, MATLAB.
  8. Any battery storage or large scale renewable energy (solar, wind, hydrogen) experience is a HUGE PLUS.
US Power Market Strategy Manager Role

The US Power Market Strategy Manager is a Strategic Analytical Portfolio Leadership role focused on capacity expansion & transmission market development. The role requires a proven background leading initiatives around integrated resource planning, utility RFP evaluations, power market analytics, and techno-economic analysis of nationwide ISO/RTOs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. The Market Strategy Transmission Manager develops and implements power market strategy plans based on short-term and long-term outlooks.
  2. The Market Strategy Transmission Manager leads the evaluation of transmission system-based needs across utilities nationwide based on aggregated data from integrated resources plans (IRPs) as well as publicly available RFPs.
  3. The Market Strategy Transmission Manager drives the direction of company operations through the analysis of market trends in the utility-scale renewables sectors such as transmission congestion rates, battery storage implementation, and power market saturation.
  4. The Market Strategy Transmission Manager provides critical input to the Renewables Project Development Team on siting campaigns, market prioritization timelines, and potential non-conventional market opportunities (domestically and internationally).
  5. The Market Strategy Transmission Manager leads the creation of a process to track operational and project development opportunities across nationwide ISO/RTOs through the development of company dashboards with easy-to-understand user interfaces.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Utility-scale renewable and/or transmission market experience in Lead or Management roles with an emphasis on Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) and Power Market Analysis.
  2. Must have experience with various types of analysis - capacity prices, regional energy pricing, congestion and curtailment analysis, transmission constraints, interconnection assessments, LMPs, and/or regional supply and demand curves.
  3. Well versed in the frameworks of utility ISOs (independent system operator) and/or RTOs (regional transmission organization).
  4. Data Visualization experience in tools like PowerBI are HUGE PLUS.
  5. Understanding of electricity market policy and rules with respect to interconnection and transmission system planning.
  6. Must have an understanding of national energy markets and renewable energy portfolios (PJM, ERCOT, SPP, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, and CAISO).
  7. Exposure to economic transmission market planning and analysis - AURORA, PROMOD, GridView, UPlan, or PLEXOS is a PLUS (NOT REQUIRED).
  8. Working knowledge of Utility-scale renewable energy operations (Wind, Solar, Energy Storage, Battery Storage).
  9. Solution-driven “get it done” attitude, strong communication, and presentation skills.
