Position Summary

As part of Cigna Pharmacy Management, the Cigna Pharmacy Sales & Account Management (CP-SAM) Senior Manager serves as the leader of pharmacy benefits strategy and main pharmacy subject matter expert, working in partnership with the leadership of the Cigna Medical Sales organization in the West Region that serves Middle Market and Select Segment clients.

The CP-SAM Senior Manager will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships in the assigned markets, with internal stakeholders (the Market Growth Lead (MGL) of the Market and the Sales team), external clients, and local broker/consultant partners to advance Cigna Pharmacy Management client retention & growth strategies. They will lead and manage a team of Pharmacy Clinical Account Managers and/or Pharmacy Account Executives to deliver results aligned with Cigna's strategic goals. Active in-market participation will be key, enabling close collaboration with Medical Sales leadership. The role also involves working with Pharmacy Sales Directors on market strategies, overseeing pharmacy SME support for clients, and leading pharmacy carve-in strategies.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Retain the assigned book of business through proactive portfolio management, understanding pharmacy pricing, competition, products, and guarantees to renew clients and preserve earnings.
  2. Collaborate with Medical Sales, pharmacy partners, clients, and brokers to optimize pharmacy benefits and promote preferred programs.
  3. Educate the Medical Sales organization and local markets on pharmacy topics.
  4. Develop market-specific pharmacy business plans to outline sales and training strategies, and identify opportunities for expanding pharmacy earnings.
  5. Sell-in pharmacy management programs that support Cigna's goal of lowering total health costs.
  6. Provide leadership to the in-market Pharmacy team, including hiring, onboarding, training, and coaching.
  7. Ensure successful client pharmacy implementations, renewals, and benefit changes, with risk mitigation strategies.
  8. Optimize human resources to meet service commitments.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute market-specific pharmacy service plans.
  • Manage client assignment to team members.
  • Support team hiring, onboarding, training, and coaching.
  • Understand market competition and assist in sales and retention strategies.
  • Maintain knowledge of Cigna Pharmacy Management’s offerings.
  • Maintain an active presence in the market and sales offices.
  • Support and retain client book, leveraging consultative selling strategies.
  • Build broker/consultant relationships as the pharmacy SME.
  • Represent Cigna Pharmacy Management in market meetings and events.

For Clients

  • Lead planning and strategy for pharmacy RFPs/bids, including pricing and presentation.
  • Ensure pharmacy team understands client needs and provides strategic management options.
  • Support Medical Sales teams with pharmacy escalations.
  • Monitor sales activities and forecast business accurately.
  • Ensure quality in client pharmacy implementations and renewals.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of PBM experience, with management and strategic planning skills.
  • Extensive pharmacy background, pharmacist or non-pharmacist.
  • Mastery of consultative client management and PBM strategies.
  • Ownership, accountability, and strategic thinking.
  • Strong operational knowledge of PBM clinical programs, especially in Specialty Pharmacy.
  • Ability to work independently, create, and execute business plans.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis.
  • Strong relationship-building skills.
  • Results-driven with influence and sales ability.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% seasonally.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • Located in-market or with established relationships in the market.

For remote work, internet must be via broadband or fiber with at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.
