Job summary

Boston Engineering, based in Waltham, MA, seeks a Principal Firmware Engineer to lead embedded software strategy and hands-on development for RTOS-based systems. You will drive architecture, code quality, and collaboration with electrical, mechanical, and product teams to deliver robust firmware and hardware integration.

The role emphasizes mentorship, design reviews, and advancing best practices across projects, with a focus on reliability, safety, and performance in complex systems.

Qualifications

• BS (or MS) in CS/EE/CE or related field.
• 7+ years embedded/firmware development experience; 3+ years in senior/lead roles.
• Fluency in C and C++ for embedded systems; Python for tooling/testing.
• Hands-on with RTOS environments (FreeRTOS, ROS2, Zephyr).
• Experience with STM32/ARM MCUs/SoCs and low-level interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Own embedded software at tactical and strategic levels; set direction and best practices.
• Lead technical design reviews, architecture discussions, and roadmap planning.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and product teams to unblock progress.
• Mentor engineers on firmware architecture, debugging techniques, and standards.
