Job description

Bloom Energy is looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer, NPI to join our team. This role will report to Director, NPI, Engineering, and is based in Fremont, CA. The position is fully on-site, requiring five days a week in-office work.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Lead the transition of electrical components, PCBAs, and electrical systems from design phase to high-volume manufacturing (HVM).
  • Manage new NPI project transfers to Bloom Manufacturing and contract manufacturers.
  • Drive the end-to-end NPI process from prototype builds (pilot) to mass production (HVM).
  • Act as the primary technical contact between R&D/design teams and contract manufacturers for electrical sub-assemblies.
  • Provide Design for Manufacturability (DfM) and Design for Test (DfT) feedback for PCBAs, wiring harnesses, motors, and battery systems.
  • Develop, manage, and update process PFMEAs for new or modified processes and equipment.
  • Ensure supplier readiness, including capacity, tooling, and BOM management.
  • Lead the Electrical NPI team.
  • Identify potential design or supply chain dependencies, manage risks, and create contingency plans to protect project timelines.
  • Lead failure analysis, process validation (MVP, IQ/OQ/PQ), and root cause analysis of failures during the NPI phase.
  • Develop work instructions and document new products/tests, product design improvements, and process improvements.
  • Develop, maintain, and track project schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Generate and release part/assembly drawings and Bill of Materials into the PLM system.
  • Train manufacturing personnel on assembly, test processes, and test equipment.
Skills and Experience
  • 10+ years’ experience in Electrical Engineering or New Product Introduction.
  • Experience in oil and gas, energy and power, pharmaceutical production, chemical processing, large capital equipment, or a related industry.
  • Knowledge of fuel cell systems is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience in high‑voltage equipment testing and validation.
  • Ability to independently manage projects.
  • Experience in rapid scale‑up of new products or operations.
  • Ability to understand, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with a hands‑on approach.
  • Excellent hands‑on bench/lab skills working with electrical components.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Capability to work independently in a fast‑paced startup environment.
  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering.
  • Knowledge and work experience with switchgear and fuel cell processes is a plus.
  • Knowledge of electrical assemblies is a plus.

This position will be based in Fremont, CA and will involve 20%–25% traveling, reporting to the Director of Engineering NPI.

Salary Ranges: $176,300.00 – $253,700.00
