Job description

Principal Equipment Engineer at Bloom Energy. As a leader in clean, reliable, and affordable energy, Bloom Energy develops solid oxide fuel cell and electrolyzer technologies that deliver sustainable power for critical sectors worldwide. This role reports to the Equipment Engineering Senior Manager and is based in Fremont, CA. The position is fully on‑site and requires occasional off‑site work during business needs.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Support equipment across various manufacturing lines with differing levels of complexity.
  • Diagnose and fix manufacturing equipment issues.
  • Work with automated equipment, providing support through PLC and HMI programming, including motion and servo control systems.
  • Modify existing control logic to improve safety, performance, or throughput.
  • Participate in commissioning of new automated equipment and ensure all devices function as designed.
  • Install, commission, and support vision systems for tracking and quality inspections.
  • Conduct engineering tasks in mechanical, electrical, and structural systems for testing, material handling, welding, and machining equipment.
  • Oversee equipment installation as well as start‑up and implementation projects.
  • Partner with Advanced Manufacturing Engineers to lead FAT, equipment validation, and production handover.
  • Develop equipment specifications and documents for the manufacturing assembly, testing, and material handling processes.
  • Oversee project timelines, financial planning, and prepare comprehensive status reports for leadership.
  • Work with vendors, facility engineers, manufacturing engineers, and production teams to manage project implementation.
  • Find ways to boost safety, cut costs, enhance efficiency, and raise quality.
  • Prepare or approve system as‑built drawings.
  • Work flexible hours, including off shifts and weekends, as required by business needs.
Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering, or related engineering field.
  • 7+ years of experience as a manufacturing or equipment engineer.
  • Experience with robotics, motion control, pneumatics, and machine vision systems.
  • Experience in equipment requirement development and specification writing.
  • Knowledge of ergonomic and machine safety standards.
  • Proficiency with Autocad, Solidworks, and MS Office suite.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in high‑volume thin ceramics, solar, or battery manufacturing.
  • Experience in thermal equipment/process development and high‑volume manufacturing integration.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand/walk for up to 8‑10 hours per shift.
  • Occasional lift/carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Use hands and fingers to operate machinery controls and computers.
  • Visual acuity sufficient for product inspection and reading digital/printed materials.
  • Hearing ability to detect alarms and communicate effectively with staff.
  • Ability to perform essential tasks with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in required areas (safety glasses, safety‑toed boots).
