Principal Electrical Engineer
Overview
Exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineer to work in our Guidance & Navigation Division in Pine Brook, NJ. In this role, you will be a key member of a technical team responsible for the development, design, and testing of high-reliability electronics for inertial navigation systems. This is a Principal level technical position, responsible for electrical circuit design emphasizing component selection and application analysis. Includes circuit architecture, performing trade studies, presenting materials for peer review, and for seeing development activities through integration, qualification and into production. Must be familiar with circuit design and analysis using industry-standard analysis tools.
Leads and drives advanced engineering initiatives within our organization. Must provide strategic technical leadership, oversee complex projects, mentor engineering teams, and contribute to the development of cutting-edge solutions. This role requires a deep technical background, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally to achieve organizational objectives
Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership: Provide high-level engineering expertise, guiding the design, development, and implementation of advanced technical solutions.
- Project Management: Lead large-scale engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and adherence to deadlines.
- Innovation & R&D: Drive research and development efforts, staying ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies.
- Mentorship & Training: Coach and mentor junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with leadership, product teams, and other departments to align engineering initiatives with business goals.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for optimizing engineering workflows, improving efficiency, and ensuring best practices.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure designs and processes comply with industry regulations, company policies, and safety standards.
- Risk Assessment: Evaluate potential technical risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project success.
- Stakeholder Communication: Present technical findings, recommendations, and updates to senior management and key stakeholders.
- Subject matter expert in wide technology areas
- Works independently and identifies areas that should be pursued
- Leads problem solving effort across multiple disciplines and has subject matter expertise in multiple disciplines
- Demonstrates the ability to create and teach training material to the group
- Responsible for assuring collaboration and teaming in projects
- Communicates as an expert in the areas of interest
- Leads formal mentoring and training activities
- Major contributor to new visions for technology or business opportunities
- Provides critical leadership on significant projects
- Advises and approves best course of action in critical projects and influencing company strategy
- Advocates the process, educates and actively coaches others; evaluates process outputs at a more complex level
Essential Functions
- Producing documented circuit design that meet and trace to system requirements.
- Digital and analog circuit design for performance, signal integrity, EMI
- Component analysis emphasizing component worst-case, stress and reliability analysis
- Organize, develop and conduct research studies, investigations, or analyses directed toward the solution of moderately complex technical problems.
- Gather, correlate and analyze technical information necessary to the accomplishment of assigned tasks.
- Prepare reports, charts, graphs and other documents.
Critical Competencies
- Ability to evaluate system requirements, perform trade studies, architect assemblies and establish design verification test specifications.
- Analog and digital design skills including high-speed bus and peripherals (UART, SPI)
- Knowledge of layout techniques for signal integrity and EMI
- Test and Lab Instrumentation (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers)
- Oral, written and electronic communication skills
Requirements
- Minimum, B.S. in Electrical Engineering
- 20+ years in electronics design and development
- Microsoft Office
- Engineering Tools: Spice modeling, Mathcad/Matlab a plus
- Bonus: Altium schematic/layout tools
- Bonus: Experience with defense/aerospace hardware/environments, MILSTDs
- Bonus: DOORS requirements management software experience
- Team/group/project leadership experience
- Due to U.S. export control laws under ITAR, this position is only open to U.S. persons, which includes U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents (Green Card holders), and certain protected individuals under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New Jersey is
$130,000 - $170,000 Annually. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, and internal consistency.
Additionally, we offer a medical, prescription, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, a 401(k) plan with company match, tuition assistance, paid vacation and sick days, paid holidays, and a 9/80 work week with every other Friday off.
