Job summary

Metric Geo is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead complex power and utilities projects. The role requires deep expertise in electrical engineering, substations, and protection & control, with proven leadership and client liaison capabilities.

The ideal candidate will guide design decisions, supervise engineers and technicians, and ensure projects are delivered to scope, schedule and budget while maintaining strong client relationships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Minimum of 15 years’ relevant electrical engineering experience.
  • Strong background in power and utility engineering.
  • Substation experience required.
  • Protection & Control experience preferred.
  • Electrical system modelling experience preferred.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer required.
  • Strong technical leadership, communication and client-facing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight across complex electrical engineering projects.
  • Coordinate project work with engineers, designers, consultants and project managers.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and provide design or construction solutions.
  • Apply advanced electrical engineering techniques and analysis.
  • Use appropriate engineering software and tools to support project delivery.
  • Perform complex engineering tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Review project work at various design stages to ensure quality and technical accuracy.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to clients on technical electrical issues.
  • Support client meetings, technical discussions and project reviews.
  • Assist with recruiting, developing and retaining engineering talent.
  • Support project managers with technical staffing needs and team planning.
  • Provide feedback to support performance reviews and professional development.
  • Help ensure projects are delivered successfully from both a technical and financial perspective.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, internal teams and external stakeholders.

Principal Electrical Engineer – Power & Utilities
About the Company

A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to support the delivery of complex power, utility and infrastructure projects. The company provides engineering design, consulting and project management services across multiple technical disciplines, supporting large-scale infrastructure, facilities and energy projects.

This is an opportunity for a senior electrical engineering professional to join a growing Power & Utilities team and take a key technical leadership role across high-profile projects.

Position Summary

The Principal Electrical Engineer will provide technical oversight on complex electrical engineering projects within the power and utilities sector. This individual will act as a subject matter expert, helping solve challenging technical problems, guide design decisions, support project delivery and maintain strong client relationships.

The role will involve technical leadership, quality control, client interaction, project support and informal supervision of engineers, designers and technical staff.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 15 years’ relevant electrical engineering experience.
  • Strong background in power and utility engineering.
  • Substation experience required.
  • Protection & Control experience preferred.
  • Electrical system modelling experience preferred.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer required.
  • Strong technical leadership, communication and client-facing skills.
  • Ability to support complex projects and guide multidisciplinary teams.
