Job summary

Autodesk in Sheffield is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to provide technical leadership for a new Electron and Chromium-based desktop platform for Autodesk web applications. This role is hands-on and contributes to architecture, design, implementation, debugging, and code reviews.

You will guide engineers across Electron runtime, Windows integrations, and automated delivery, while maintaining secure, maintainable, and reusable platform capabilities. Hybrid work in Sheffield is offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong software engineering experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and Node.js
• Experience designing and delivering complex software systems or platform capabilities
• Experience leading technical design and implementation across multiple engineers
• Experience with Electron, Chromium-based applications, desktop app development, or similar platforms

Responsibilities

• Define platform architecture for the Electron desktop platform and product integration patterns
• Design, prototype, implement, and review functionality across Electron, Chromium, Node.js and Windows APIs
• Mentor engineers, review complex changes, and establish engineering standards
• Coordinate cross-team collaboration with security, telemetry, and release teams
• Define release gates, upgrade policies, and production-readiness requirements
• Help ensure the desktop platform remains aligned with upstream Electron/Chromium capabilities
• Evaluate new Electron/Chromium releases and related technologies
• Diagnose issues spanning Electron, Chromium, Windows, and hosted web apps
