Job summary

Autodesk in Sheffield is seeking a Software Engineer to help develop a new Electron and Chromium-based desktop platform for Autodesk web applications. You will build and maintain Electron components, work with Chromium configuration, and integrate with Windows at the desktop level.

You’ll collaborate with senior engineers, write unit and integration tests, and help ensure security and reliability across the platform. This is a hybrid role based in our Sheffield office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 1+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience developing software using JavaScript or TypeScript.
• Familiarity with Node.js and modern web application technologies.
• Understanding of software engineering fundamentals including source control, testing, debugging, and code review.
• Ability to troubleshoot typical software problems using logs, debuggers, and development tools.
• Ability to learn unfamiliar technologies and apply guidance from more experienced engineers.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Electron application development - develop and maintain features in the Electron main process, preload layer, renderer integration, and supporting Node.js components.
• Chromium runtime and platform integration - work with Chromium configuration, command-line options, and build settings to enable desktop capabilities.
• Windows and native integration - implement desktop capabilities, OS integration, hardware and system-info access, and native functionality.
• Reliability, security, and troubleshooting - investigate crashes, runtime problems, memory issues, security concerns, and installation problems.
• Implement features and tasks from design through testing and code review.
• Develop secure communication between web content and desktop functionality using defined interfaces.
• Write unit and integration tests for the components you develop and contribute to team quality practices.
• Work with senior engineers to apply Electron security best practices and process isolation.
