As a Principal Data Platform Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing and scaling the data infrastructure that supports experiences and AI models. Reporting directly to the CPTO, you’ll influence data strategy, drive engineering excellence, and help shape future commerce technology.

Your Responsibilities:

1. Design & Build: Architect a modern, scalable, and cost-effective data platform using industry best practices.
2. Lead with Vision: Guide data strategy and architecture in partnership with the CPTO and engineering leaders.
3. Accelerate Product Development: Collaborate with Product Managers and SDEs to launch data-intensive features and products.
4. Ensure Quality & Compliance: Champion data governance, security, and high availability across all data systems.
5. Mentor & Influence: Set the standard for technical excellence, share best practices, and foster continuous learning.

What you bring:

1. 10+ years of experience in data engineering or data platform roles, preferably in high-growth or startup environments.
2. Proven ability to build data infrastructure from scratch (0→1) and scale systems for complex workloads across OLAP and ML use cases.
3. Deep expertise in modern data architectures including ETL/ELT, Data Lakes, Warehouses, Catalogs, and Real-time Streaming.
4. Cloud-native experience (AWS), including services like S3, Redshift, Glue, SageMaker, and Bedrock. Bonus for experience with Clickhouse, Airbyte, Rudderstack, Airflow, Metabase & Posthog.
5. Track record of delivering production-grade data products that impact business or product outcomes.
6. Strategic mindset with the ability to influence technical direction and align data work with business goals.
7. Strong collaboration skills and a bias for action—comfortable with architecture, coding, debugging, and advising leadership.

The base salary range for this role is USD $170K to $215K. This full-time position may also include bonuses, equity options, and benefits, depending on qualifications, experience, and location. Final offers may vary.
