Job summary

Moderna is seeking a Principal Data Architect to design and govern an enterprise data architecture that makes CMC data usable, governable, and AI-ready at scale. You will define integration patterns, data models, metadata standards, and reusable architecture artifacts across Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain.

You will mentor engineers, influence technical direction, and drive architecture patterns for real-time data from control systems into a unified platform.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or enterprise architecture.
• 4+ years of experience in regulated environments (pharma/manufacturing).
• Experience integrating data from control systems and real-time sources.
• Experience spanning OT/IT data and enterprise data platforms.
• Integration architecture across enterprise systems (ERP, QMS, MES, LIMS, or equivalent).
• Strong data modeling knowledge (dimensional & ER).
• Ability to produce architecture specifications for engineering teams.
• Strong data governance, lineage, access control, and retention understanding.
• Understanding of GxP and data integrity implications for architecture.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain the target-state data architecture across CMC domains with composable shared entities.
• Define and implement integration patterns connecting control systems to enterprise data platforms for real-time data flows.
• Establish repeatable ingestion, transformation, and serving patterns for heterogeneous CMC data.
• Define and enforce data standards, metadata, and lineage as architectural concerns.
• Design data models and semantic structures supporting analytics and AI use cases.
• Codify patterns as templates and reference implementations for reuse.
• Develop vocabularies and glossaries to ensure data consistency across domains.
• Inform cloud data platform decisions for warehousing, transformation, orchestration, and catalog tooling.
• Mentor engineers and data product owners to lift architectural fluency.
