Job summary

RTX is seeking a Principal Controls Engineer, Manufacturing Automation, to design, develop, program, deploy and support advanced automation in aerospace manufacturing. This hands-on role requires taking automation from concept to production with robotics, PLCs, motion and safety systems.

You will work with mechanical, manufacturing engineers and technicians to deliver reliable, maintainable equipment and will occasionally travel for installations and customer support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics or related field.
• Experience in industrial automation and controls engineering.
• Proficiency in industrial robotic programming and integration with independent troubleshooting.
• Experience programming and troubleshooting PLC-based control systems.
• Experience with major robot platforms such as FANUC or ABB.
• Understanding of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, motion control, safety, sensors.
• Experience taking automation systems from concept through commissioning to production.
• Hold a current U.S. government-issued Secret Clearance or eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Identify automation opportunities to improve capability, quality, safety and throughput.
• Lead controls work from concept through programming, integration, commissioning and deployment.
• Program, troubleshoot, and optimize industrial robots for aerospace manufacturing.
• Integrate robots with PLCs, vision systems, motion and safety devices.
• Develop machine sequences, interlocks, fault handling and operator interfaces.
• Commission new equipment and support existing systems in development and ramp-up.
• Provide engineering guidance to maintain reliability and standardization.
