The Cloud Engineering Principal provides enterprise leadership for cloud platforms, infrastructure services, automation, and operational excellence. This role establishes technical strategy, architecture standards, governance practices, and engineering best practices that enable secure, scalable, resilient, and cost‑effective technology services. Success is achieved through deep technical expertise, strategic influence, operational leadership, and the ability to drive modernization across cloud, infrastructure, identity, and platform engineering disciplines.
Troubleshooting & Support
Participate in a 24x7 on‑call rotation up to 50% of the year and act as a first responder to operational and security incidents affecting business‑critical systems and cloud platforms.
Apply critical thinking, analysis, and technical troubleshooting skills to assess and rapidly resolve complex infrastructure, security, networking, identity, and cloud platform issues.
Serve as an escalation point for Tier 2 and Tier 3 cloud and infrastructure support.
Lead resolution of major incidents involving cloud services, identity platforms, virtualization, networking, business continuity, and enterprise applications.
Perform root cause analysis and drive implementation of long‑term corrective and preventive actions.
Act as technical lead and mentor for Cloud Engineers, Systems Engineers, and Infrastructure Engineers.
Cloud Platform Engineering Design, implement, and govern enterprise cloud platforms, services, and operational standards.
Establish cloud architecture patterns, security controls, automation standards, and governance processes.
Lead cloud migration, modernization, and infrastructure transformation initiatives.
Partner with application, security, and data teams to enable scalable, secure, and resilient technology solutions.
Influence strategic direction for cloud services, platform engineering, observability, automation, resilience, and infrastructure operations.
Infrastructure Operations & Security Establish and maintain operational processes, procedures, standards, and technical documentation.
Advise stakeholders on cloud architecture, security, compliance, platform capabilities, and operational risk.
Lead implementation of infrastructure resiliency, disaster recovery, backup, and recovery strategies.
Influence enterprise standards for identity management, endpoint management, networking, cloud governance, and infrastructure security.
Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to enterprise platforms and operational efficiency.
This role carries highly privileged administrative access across cloud, infrastructure, and identity platforms. Errors in judgment or inadvertent mistakes could result in:
7-9 years of relevant infrastructure, cloud engineering, systems engineering, or platform administration experience.
Advanced to Expert Technical Knowledge Microsoft Azure and AWS infrastructure and platform engineering
Cloud architecture, governance, and operational best practices
Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
Windows and Linux Server administration and configuration
Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, SSO, MFA, Conditional Access, and identity governance
Cloud storage, backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions
Monitoring, logging, observability, and alerting platforms
PowerShell and infrastructure automation CI/CD pipeline support and DevOps practices
Security hardening, vulnerability management, and cloud security controls
Container and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
Microsoft 365 platform administration
Moderate Technical Knowledge Application architecture and cloud‑native development patterns
Data platforms and analytics services
FinOps and cloud cost optimization practices
Zero Trust security principles and regulatory compliance requirements
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
$135,000-$140,000
If applicable, meet all DOT qualification requirements and comply with all applicable federal, state, and local transportation regulations.
$110,200.00 - $165,200.00
