Job summary

AbbVie in Chicago seeks a Process Chemistry expert to invent and execute enzymatic routes for API development, contributing to preclinical and clinical candidates. You will lead biocatalytic project work with AI/ML and high-throughput methods to accelerate discovery and scale-up.

You will collaborate across functional teams to deliver safe, cost-effective manufacturing processes, while complying with GxP and regulatory standards in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• PhD/MS/BS in organic chemistry with 6+ (PhD), 12+ (MS) or 14+ (BS) years of experience.
• Hands-on biocatalysis including enzyme screening and application to synthetic transformations.
• Proficiency in recombinant DNA techniques and protein expression for enzyme production.
• Experience with high-throughput experimentation (HTE) platforms and data analysis workflows.
• Demonstrated ability to apply AI/ML and data science approaches to solve complex chemical synthesis problems.

Responsibilities

• Set and implement strategies for solving complex synthetic problems in process development, via biocatalytic methods.
• Identify and design enzymes, apply recombinant DNA techniques, engineer biocatalysts for improved activity and stability.
• Leverage AI/ML, bioinformatics, and HTE to accelerate enzyme screening and process development cycles.
• Lead project teams for process development and characterization of APIs and related modalities.
• Author and review technical reports, patents, and publications; present findings at scientific forums.
