Job summary

Elastic is seeking a Principal Software Engineer for its Billing Core domain. This hands-on role designs systems, improves operations, and scales billing services across multiple cloud providers.

You will lead architecture, data models, and reliability while mentoring engineers across the organization. You will work with Product, SRE, and Cloud Infrastructure teams to shape roadmaps, drive deployment improvements, and ensure high availability for critical billing systems in a distributed, async

Qualifications

• 8+ years in backend or platform engineering.
• Strong Python and PostgreSQL skills, including schema design and high availability.
• Experience improving reliability, observability, and incident response in production systems.
• Cloud infrastructure experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Ability to lead multi-quarter projects across teams and mentor engineers.
• DoD IL4+ eligibility or higher is required.

Responsibilities

• Own complex billing and account management systems spanning multiple services and cloud providers.
• Build large-scale data pipelines for billing data ingestion, transformation, and reconciliation.
• Improve observability, incident response, and reliability of core billing systems via modern DevOps practices.
• Shape system architecture for scale and modularity, guiding service design, API structure, and data modelling.
• Collaborate with SRE and Cloud teams to improve deployment, monitoring, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Own PostgreSQL data architecture and performance with focus on speed, schema quality, and high availability.
• Serve as technical reviewer for the billing core stack and maintain design consistency.
• Mentor engineers and leads across Billing to raise standards and outcomes.
• Work with Product, Design, and Finance to align roadmaps with business goals.
• Participate in on-call rotations to ensure production readiness through automation and resilience testing.
