Job summary

DEPT® is seeking a Principal Engineer to serve as the technical anchor for your team, owning end-to-end backend and distributed systems, data platforms, and AI-enabled services. You’ll mentor engineers and steer architecture with lean, shipping-focused tradeoffs.

Work involves collaborating with product, design, and executives, guiding frontend considerations, and shaping scalable solutions in a remote US environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years writing software used by many people.
• 3+ years developing in Python with deep tech stacks.
• Expert-level knowledge of backend architecture, API design, and system design patterns.
• Familiarity with agent development and GenAI concepts.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural design of complex backend and distributed systems end to end.
• Take full ownership of workstreams and remove blockers.
• Document scope, estimates, timelines, and risks for leadership.
• Act as a technical consultant to clients and stakeholders.
• Mentor engineers and lead smaller project teams.
