Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants seeks a Lead-level Archaeologist – Principal Investigator to join our Pacific Northwest Subregion. The role leads complex projects, oversees fieldwork and reporting, mentors staff, and contributes to proposals and client relationships.

The position offers hybrid and distributed work options. Requires a Master’s in Archaeology or Anthropology, 6 years of industry experience (8+ preferred), and willingness to travel up to 20%.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Archaeology or Anthropology required.
• Ph.D. in Archaeology or Anthropology preferred; substitution allowed for certain roles.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Principal Investigator or co-author on technical reports and research designs.
• Oversee field research, data collection, inventory, analysis, and final report production.
• Mentor staff in NRHP eligibility, research design implementation, and reporting protocols.
• Develop and lead projects, drafts proposals, and manage schedules and budgets.
• Ensure QA/QC standards and compliance with federal, tribal, state and local regulations.
• Travel up to 20% as needed to support fieldwork and client meetings.
