Job summary

ERM is seeking a Principal Consultant, Archaeologist to lead complex cultural resources projects from our US office. You will guide multi-state fieldwork, mentor staff, and strengthen client relationships while contributing to ERM’s leadership in sustainability consulting.

The role requires senior archaeological leadership, field management, and the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams, with frequent travel to client sites. Competitive benefits offered.

Qualifications

  • Requires graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field; equivalent experience accepted.
  • 6–8 years of related paid experience.
  • Secretary of the Interior-qualified archaeologist listed as an RPA meeting SHPO requirements.
  • Demonstrated field experience and principal-level oversight for projects.
  • Experience as primary author/reviewer on agency-reviewed reports (NEPA, etc.).
  • Experience with regulatory agency interactions as a consultant.

Responsibilities

  • Lead teams of archaeologists across experience levels, including hiring and mentoring.
  • Provide QA/QC for deliverables prepared by other archaeologists.
  • Oversee desktop studies and field investigations (surveys, testing, excavations, monitoring).
  • Coordinate with business unit leads and managers to support performance and delivery.
  • Sign as Principal Investigator or Task Manager for cultural resources studies on major projects.
