Job summary

Snowflake Inc. is seeking a hands-on Principal Software Engineer I for the Observability team in the US. You will architect scalable infrastructure, ship customer-facing observability features, and build AI-driven detection to diagnose issues at scale.

You’ll drive adoption from concept through launch, with an emphasis on AI-first design and open standards. You will collaborate across product, design, and engineering to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience and technical leadership across backend, infrastructure, or data platforms.
• Deep experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems with strong concurrency and data-handling principles.
• Strong computer science fundamentals and proficiency in Java, Go, C++, or comparable backend languages plus cloud experience.
• AI-first engineering mindset: actively using AI to improve execution, problem solving, and quality.
• Track record of shipping products to external customers, turning ambiguity into delivered systems with reliable adoption.
• Clear written communication, low-ego collaboration, strong ownership, and mentoring experience.
• A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build distributed infrastructure for logs, metrics, traces, and events at very high volume.
• Ship observability products with telemetry, dashboards, and diagnostics, driving customer value.
• Develop AI-driven detection and diagnosis workflows that surface anomalies and suggest remediation.
• Embed AI-first practices across design, testing, and operations.
• Lead from architecture to adoption with intuitive APIs and self-service experiences.
• Raise the engineering bar with production-grade code and mentorship.
