Job summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Principal Software Engineer / Architect – AI for the CoCounsel Forward Deployed Engineering team in New York. This highly technical individual contributor role combines architecture leadership with hands-on development to design, build, and deliver production AI solutions for complex customer environments.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering with leadership at principal/architect level.
• Hands‑on experience writing and reviewing production code.
• Experience with AI/ML, Generative AI, or LLM-powered systems.
• Experience delivering AI solutions that integrate with enterprise infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, cloud architecture, scalability.
• Ability to mentor Senior/Staff engineers and influence architecture.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex technical engagements from discovery through production delivery.
• Architect, build, and deploy production AI solutions within enterprise environments.
• Write production code regularly and review the work of engineers.
• Provide technical direction across AI, software architecture, integration, security, and deployment.
• Work directly with customers to understand environments, constraints and needs.
• Partner with Product and Engineering to translate learnings into scalable product features.
• Identify patterns across engagements and improve the CoCounsel platform.
• Mentor engineers and guide technical decisions.
• Influence strategy across Forward Deployed Engineering and related teams.
• Evaluate new technologies to improve AI delivery, reliability and outcomes.
• Communicate complex decisions to engineers, product leaders, executives and customers.
• Serve as a senior technical representative for Thomson Reuters in high-impact engagements.
