Job summary

The Primate Caretaker at the University of Wisconsin–Madison provides essential animal care for nonhuman primates, performing health checks, TB testing, and feeding, with data entry and record-keeping to support research programs.

Training is provided to achieve proficiency in nonhuman primate care, with emphasis on safety and adherence to protocol, and compensation is commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

• Evidence of work-related experience with animals preferred but not required.
• Must undergo extensive training to handle nonhuman primates and follow safety practices.
• Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

• 10% Inventories, cleans, and maintains organization of animal holding spaces and supplies.
• 25% Observes animal behavior and reports concerns to support animal health and welfare and research.
• 15% Prepares food and formulas and feeds animals according to schedules.
• 25% Collects samples and administers medications, injections, and treatments per protocols for diagnostics/research.
• 5% Inspects and reports equipment problems for safe operation.
• 10% Maintains records related to research procedures and updates.
• 10% Operates the automatic cage wash machine.
