Job summary

Montgomery County Public Schools seeks a Primary Literacy Teacher to deliver a balanced literacy program for primary grade students. Under the principal, you provide explicit reading instruction and small-group support to ensure student success.

You will implement guided reading, independent literacy centers, word work, shared reading, read aloud, and modeled/shared/guided writing, while monitoring progress and communicating with families and staff. A Bachelor’s degree in education is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, elementary education or reading from an accredited college or university.
• Meets Maryland state certification requirements in early childhood or elementary education.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a developmentally appropriate balanced literacy program for primary grade students.
• Provide explicit reading instruction and small-group support (≤15 students).
• Use components of a primary reading program (guided reading, centers, word work, shared/read aloud writing).
• Monitor student outcomes and maintain appropriate records.
• Communicate with students, parents, staff and community.
