Qualifications

  • 5+ years in legal pricing, legal project management, finance, legal operations, practice management, or related function.
  • Experience within AMLAW 200 law firm or similar professional services environment preferred.
  • Experience supporting AFAs and budgeting matters.
  • Understanding of law firm economics and profitability drivers.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate across teams.
  • Strong communication skills and Excel proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, evaluation, and implementation of pricing strategies for client engagements.
  • Prepare and model AFAs, fixed fees, caps, success fees, retainers, subscriptions, and other non-hourly pricing structures.
  • Conduct profitability and financial analyses to support pricing recommendations.
  • Work with attorneys and practice leaders to develop competitive fee proposals and RFP responses.
  • Analyze historical matter data to develop pricing models.
  • Monitor performance of AFAs and provide improvement recommendations.
  • Support annual rate review processes and client-specific pricing negotiations.
  • Collaborate with matter teams to develop matter budgets, workplans, timelines, and resource allocations.
  • Implement LPM methodologies across high-value matters.
  • Monitor matter performance against budgets and milestones.
  • Identify risks and budget variances and propose corrective actions.
  • Develop project tracking tools, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Promote efficient matter execution and enhanced client service delivery.
  • Drive standardized tools, templates, and workflows for pricing and PM.
  • Support implementation of pricing, financial, and legal operations technologies.
  • Participate in firm-wide initiatives focused on operational excellence.

The Pricing & Legal Project Management Manager plays a critical role in supporting the firm's strategic pricing, matter profitability, and legal project management initiatives. This position collaborates closely with practice group leaders and attorneys to develop innovative fee arrangements, analyze matter economics, improve pricing strategies, and drive project management best practices across the firm.

Responsibilities

Strategic Pricing

  • Lead the development, evaluation, and implementation of pricing strategies for client engagements.
  • Prepare and model alternative fee arrangements (AFAs), fixed fees, capped fees, success fees, retainers, subscriptions, and other non-hourly pricing structures.
  • Conduct profitability and financial analyses to support pricing recommendations.
  • Work with attorneys and practice leaders to develop competitive fee proposals and RFP responses.
  • Analyze historical matter data, staffing assumptions, realization rates, and client requirements to develop pricing models.
  • Monitor performance of alternative fee arrangements and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Support annual rate review processes and client-specific pricing negotiations.

Legal Project Management

  • Collaborate with attorneys and matter teams to develop matter budgets, workplans, timelines, and resource allocations.
  • Implement legal project management methodologies across high-value and complex matters.
  • Monitor matter performance against budgets and milestones.
  • Identify risks, budget variances, scope changes, and staffing challenges and recommend corrective actions.
  • Facilitate matter planning sessions and project kick-off meetings.
  • Develop project tracking tools, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Promote efficient matter execution and enhanced client service delivery.

Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Prepare profitability analyses for clients, matters, practice groups, and offices.
  • Provide ongoing reporting regarding pricing performance, realization, utilization, and matter economics.
  • Identify trends and opportunities to improve firm profitability.
  • Support forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain pricing and project management metrics and dashboards.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to partners regarding pricing strategy, profitability, and matter management.
  • Work directly with Business Development teams during client pitches and proposal development.
  • Assist attorneys in responding to client requests regarding budgeting, staffing plans, and fee arrangements.
  • Provide training on pricing and project management best practices.

Process Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to matter budgeting, pricing governance, and project management.
  • Develop standardized tools, templates, and workflows.
  • Support implementation and optimization of pricing, financial, and legal operations technologies.
  • Participate in firmwide initiatives focused on operational excellence and client value.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in legal pricing, legal project management, finance, legal operations, practice management, or related function.
  • Prior experience within an AMLAW 200 law firm, legal services organization, consulting firm, or professional services environment strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting alternative fee arrangements and budgeting matters.
  • Demonstrated understanding of law firm economics and profitability drivers. [hard skills]
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate across teams.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information to partners and senior stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Experience with Aderant preferred.
  • Strong organizational, writing, communications and time management skills.
  • Self-starter with a collaborative "get the job done" attitude.

Salary range based on experience level and location is estimated to be in the range of $140,000-170,000.
